AJ and I are pleased to announce that we are expecting a boy! We are holding off on sharing the name, and I have taken to calling him "Hot Shot". I am also thrilled that WOD toys has released a line of plush toys! Teddy bear vs. kettle bell?
Fortunately, some of my energy returned during the second trimester. I am still no where near my previous levels of vigor, but at this point, I will take what I can get. The past month has been pretty hectic with closing on our new house followed immediately by some major renovations. I treated packing and moving like removing a band-aid; take a deep breath and just get it done. Since we wanted to get somewhat settled before I went back to school full-time, we had to move in while our contractor was still working. A few weeks later, and he's still working. As if living in a construction zone was not bad enough. Combine that with some pregnancy insomnia and early mornings coaching SOAR, and I have been less than the happy camper. Still, every grind of the drill and pound of the hammer brings us one loud bang closer to completion.
So, here comes another semester of grad school to add to my schedule. I have to admit, taking the summer off was perfectly timed. Despite some residual sources of stress (like an unfinished master bath and closet), I am pretty excited to get back to classes.
CrossFit and pre-natal yoga remain my fitness program of choice. I tried to go on a jog the other day, and little Hot Shot protested. He has no problem with me throwing power cleans and snatches from a hang, but taking him on a run feels like carrying an awkward Army ruck on the front of my body. So, most of my programming keeps us in the garage with modified power and oly lifting, kettle bells, and some body weight movements.
As for nutrition, I still eat relatively clean and balanced. I let myself eat what I want when I want without too much stress. Most of my preferred options are still minimally processed and organic local produce and protein. But, if I want queso compuesto from Polvo's, I get it. I try to get 80-100g of quality protein a day. For those of you concerned with sushi and deli meat, this link has some new information you may want to read. I eat sushi about once a week, and the baby loves it! http://www.babymed.com/food-and-nutrition/how-safe-it-eat-sushi-or-raw-fish-during-pregnancy
I also have not been craving much chocolate at all. I realized that it is because I take 1000mg of Magnesium per day. Just another fun fact for those of you trying to avoid attacking the candy aisle.

Magnesium... huh. I need to get my husband on that! He has the hardest time going even a couple days without digging into the extra dark chocolate chip stash. We maintain a probably a 90% gluten free/ minimal sugar diet throughout the week and then enjoy our cheat day on Saturday and it is working well for us!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the baby boy! I'm very excited for you all! We are also renovating our master bath - hope you post some pictures!
Take care!
